[ARCHIVED] Safe Drinking Water

press release

The City of Pratt issued a notice mandated by KDHE on June 15, 2023 that one of the wells in our water system, Well 15, had tested slightly above the maximum nitrate level allowed in public water systems.  The maximum allowance is 10 parts per million and Well 15 tested at 11 parts per million.  While we understand that this notice caused concern among our citizens, it is important to note that the City’s Water Department has been closely watching this well in order to ensure that we are providing quality water to our citizens.   Therefore, Well 15 ran for a total of only 4 hours throughout the entire year of 2023, and those hours were for the purpose of system and contaminant testing.  Even though we have not been running it, Well 15 was officially taken out of water production on July 24, 2023 and put into an emergency standby category. When that category became official the City of Pratt was notified by KDHE that we are no longer required to provide bottled water to vulnerable populations since no water from the well will be entering the water system. The City of Pratt is committed to the health and safety of our citizens, and we are confident that we have and will continue to provide safe and quality water for everyone consuming and utilizing the City’s water supply.
